Implatable Contact Lens

Amritsar Eye Clinic introduces Implantable Contact Lens (ICL). (A Non-Laser Alternative) The ICL is made of a biocompatible material called collamer. This means that the eye happily accepts it without reacting to it. Because ICL is tiny and soft it can be folded up so small that, it can be injected into the eye through a tiny incision. Once injected, the ICL unfolds in between the iris and the natural lens of your eye and there it stays, correcting the eyesight without any further treatment being necessary.

The principal indication for use of ICL is the correction of myopia or myopic astigmatism beyond the range of LASIK correction (ie, generally for myopic errors of -8.00 D or greater) but these lenses can also be useful in a number of other situations including correction of myopia or myopic astigmatism in eyes with less than -8.00 D error that are for some reason contraindicated for LASIK.

Amritsar Eye clinic is the first in Dehradun to introduce ICL .Dr Dinesh Sharma states that the majority of patients are found to be suitable for laser vision correction but there are a small percentage of people who are unsuitable candidates due to various reasons such as their prescription falling outside the recommended parameters or their corneas being too thin. For such patients who are not the candidate for LASIK, there is a non-laser alternative called Implantable Contact Lens (ICL). Dr Sharma further adds that ICL is capable of correcting the most common vision disorders as well as those disorders where conventional laser treatment may not be advisable.

Implanting the ICL is an outpatient procedure and takes about 15 to 30 minutes in total. A few hours after surgery, you will be able to leave the clinic accompanied by a friend or relative.
