Dr. Dinesh Sharma completed his M.B.B.S. in 1978 and M.S. in 1981 from the Government Medical College, Amritsar. He worked with the Punjab Medical Services for 5 years and later migrated to Dehradun where he established Amritsar Eye Clinic in 1987. He is an accredited cataract surgeon. Operating cataracts with lens implants since 1983, he is one of the pioneers in this field. Till date, Dr. Dinesh Sharma has performed more than 45000 cataract extractions. Under his leadership, refractive surgeries are being successfully performed at A.E.C. since 1999. Associated with many charitable institutions throughout his career, he has operated thousands of patients free of cost even at faraway places like Varanasi.
He has presented a number a research papers in Europe and Southeast Asia on Micro-Incision Cataract Surgery (MICS) and refractive procedures. Dr. Dinesh Sharma has a special and keen interest in Oculoplasty and Glaucoma. With years of experience in so many super-specialities of ophthalmology, Dr. Dinesh Sharma handles a large variety of cases not only in the out-patient department but also in the operation theatre.
Dr. Smriti Jain completed her M.B.B.S. in 2001 and M.S. in 2004 from the Kasturba Medical College, Manipal. Thereafter, she worked at the Greater Lions Eye Hospital, Siliguri, for a year and contributed significantly to community ophthalmology.
She joined Amritsar Eye Clinic in 2006. Dr. Smriti Jain is well versed in Phaco-emulsification. Glaucoma is her special field of interest for which she has attended numerous seminars and conferences. She is also proficient in Laser DCR and DCT surgeries for sac problems. During her period of association with AEC, she has presented numerous scientific papers not only in regional and national conferences, but also in the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS).
Her contribution to the ‘Young Researchers Session’ at the 62nd Annual Conference of AIOS at Varanasi was appreciated. She, apart from her academic work and a busy patient practice, also contributes to Amritsar Eye Clinic’s outreach programmes and charity work. She has held many free eye camps in the neighbouring areas to provide not only cataract surgeries but also to initiate screening of glaucoma and retinal diseases.
Dr. Rajiv Kakkar did his ‘Licentiate in Medicine and Surgery’ in 1984 from Universidad Autonoma de Madrid, Madrid. He completed his ‘Doctor in Medicine’ in 1987 from Spain itself. He is associated with Amritsar Eye Clinic since 1995. As a physician, he tackles all emergencies that may arise at the centre, and is also responsible for medical check-up of patients selected for surgery.
He is an expert in ophthalmic imaging and contributes significantly to Fundus photography, Angiography and Optical Coherence Tomography. Dr. Rajiv Kakkar is also involved in data selection and analysis in Refractive surgery. He has contributed to a number of scientific and research papers presented in regional conferences and international symposia.
